As figures from website WhoSampled.com show, there have so far been 421 cover versions of the 1965 Beatles classic. From Marvin Gaye to Boyz II Men, the range of artists that have taken a stab at their own interpretation of 'Yesterday' is wide and genre-spanning.

Underscoring the immense influence the band has had on the music landscape, the next two most popular tracks to be covered are also from The Beatles - namely 'Eleanor Rigby' (347) and 'And I Love Her' (263). Extend this ranking to a top ten and you're looking at seven Beatles tracks, with one of the remaining three being 'Imagine' by John Lennon...
