Majority Says Johnson Should Go

The UK majority has said that Prime Minister Boris Johnson should step down from office, according to a snap poll by YouGov on July 5. Johnson has once more become embroiled in a scandal, this time over his mishandling of a sexual misconduct case involving the now ex-Deputy Chief Whip Chris Pincher.

Unsurprisingly, most Labour and Lib Dem voters were of the opinion that Johnson should leave as of Tuesday, with an 88 percent majority from both parties, versus the lower 54 percent of Tories. The age group that was most supportive of a resignation was aged 25-49, at 71 percent of respondents. As our chart shows, Scotland was the region most fiercely supporting a resignation, with 77 percent of people saying they wanted him out. Numbers were also high in the North of England, at 70 percent, followed closely by London at 69 percent.

Another question asked on the same day was whether or not Rishi Sunak was right to resign. 56 percent of adults said he had made the correct decision, versus only 14 percent that said he should not have and 29 percent that said they did not know.

At the time of writing, 57 people have resigned or been fired from the government so far this week. Latest reports announce that Johnson is expected to resign today (7 July) following the flood of resignations.
