1 in 4 Teens Are Online Almost Constantly

The rise of mobile internet devices, most importantly smartphones, has not only changed the way we use the internet and the aggregate time we spend online, it has also dramatically increased the frequency with which we go online.

The generation perhaps most affected by this is the generation of teenagers, who grew up used to the constant stream of information provided by smartphones and other gadgets. According to a recent poll conducted by the Pew Research Center, a stunning 24 percent of teenagers in the United States reported to be online almost constantly and another 56 percent stated to use the internet several times a day. This trend is clearly facilitated by mobile devices, as 94 percent of those teens who access the internet on mobile devices do so on a daily basis, while only 68 percent of those without mobile access go online every day.

As of now, it can only be speculated what wearable devices such as the Apple Watch will do to our online behaviour, but it seems certain that the stream of information we’re exposed to won’t grow any smaller once we carry it on our wrists.
