3 in 10 Americans Say They Can't Afford A Holiday

Data from the most recent Consumer Insights survey from Statista shows that almost three out of ten Americans (28 percent) say they won't be able to go on vacation this year due to a lack of funds. This was the highest proportion of respondents of the 32 countries included in the survey, ex æquo with Canada and Sweden. The share of people in Japan whose finances did not allow them to go on holiday this year was slightly lower at 26 percent. As the following infographic shows, China was one of the few countries where fewer than 10 percent of the respondents couldn't afford a holiday this year (with Vietnam, not included in our graphic, where this concerned 8 percent of respondents). People in China were therefore in a more favorable position than in Germany and the United Kingdom (where 20 percent of people said they wouldn't be able to afford a holiday this year) or even France (19 percent).
