Beverage Market
Coca-Cola Beats Pepsi
Coca-Cola beats Pepsi as the most consumed soft drink in the United States, but data from Statista Consumer Insights also shows that Coke does not have the same market leadership in the U.S. as in other countries. While 60 percent of U.S. respondents said they had consumed Coca-Cola in the past 12 months, this number was as high as 72 percent in the United Kingdom and 83 percent in Mexico.
The U.S. market offers a lot of choice in the soda isle, including for cola products, many of which have cultivated loyal followings. 48 percent of Americans said they had consumed Pepsi in the past 12 months and 46 percent said the same about Dr. Pepper, showing how there are several big players in the U.S. cola market.
Sprite – by the Coca-Cola Company – also stands at an annual consumption of 46 percent, followed by Pepsico's Mountain Dew and KeurigDr.Pepper's 7UP (U.S. ownership) at 36 percent each. Here, Pepsico's and Keurig's citrus-flavored products are trailing Coca-Cola's equivalent by a similar margin as their cola products, hinting at the competitive nature of the U.S. carbonated drinks market.
Last year, 33 percent of Americans said they had consumed Fanta. The product is much more popular in other markets, for example being the second most drunk soda in Germany at 41 percent annual consumers in 2025. In ranks 7 to 10 are two more Keurig drinks – A&W and Canada Dry – as well as another one by Coca-Cola (Barq's), showcasing how the soft drink markets in the U.S. might offer many competitive choices but is nevertheless highly consolidated.
