Suicide: Britain's huge gender gap

Across the United Kingdom, far more males lose their lives to suicide than females. According to the Office for National Statistics, there were 4,858 male suicides in the UK in 2013, compared to 1,375 female suicides. The situation in the United States is similar. In 2013, there were 5.5 female suicides per 100,000 of the population while for men, the figure was 20.3 per 100,000.
