The Natural Disasters That Inflict The Most Economic Damage

Over the past 20 years, natural disasters have claimed at least 606,000 lives as well as causing enormous levels of economic damage. Storm Desmond made headlines over the weekend, having caused huge disruption across Ireland and the UK, inflicting widespread flooding and leaving thousands of homes without electricity. A report from the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) has revealed that storms have the greatest economic impact of any natural disaster, causing over $1 trillion of losses around the world since 1995.
