France centre-right primary

Sarkozy Out Of The Race

Yesterday, those in France who had signed a charter to confirm they agreed with “Republican values of the centre and the right” and paid a fee of two euros were able to vote in the first round of the centre-right presidential primary. As our infographic below shows, of the seven candidates vying to become the presidential candidate, François Fillon (44.2%) and Alain Juppé (28.4%) won the most votes and will go through to a run-off next Sunday. Ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy was knocked out in what is being described by some commentators as a 'humiliating defeat'.
