The impressive rise of air travel in Ireland

Ireland has had a burgeoning corporate aviation sector for decades and back in the 1970s, Tony Ryan's Guinness Peat Aviation was credited with inventing aircraft leasing. That success has continued and today the country has become a global hub for aviation leasing and finance. It is also home to Ryanair, Tony Ryan's best-known legacy. Since it was founded in 1984, the airline has helped transform Irish air travel.

In 1985, approximately 1.8 million air passengers were carried in Ireland, according to the World Bank. Due to increased competition and lower fares offered by companies like Ryanair, that skyrocketed to 113 million by 2015. If you've ever wondered what it takes to land a Boeing 737-800, check out TheJournal.ie where the infographic below was featured.
