Hitting the Bottle: Champagne & the Post-Brexit Pound Slump

The scope of the tremors sent out by the UK's 'Brexit' vote last year has been wide. The political landscape has been changed forever, communities and families have been divided, and the economy has been pushed and pulled, in the main, on a downward curve. While some industries and businesses at home are struggling with the new conditions and the ongoing uncertainty, those in the European Union are also feeling the effects.

According to a recent analysis in the Wall Street Journal, the inevitable slump in the pound has hit one of France's most famous exports - champagne. In 2016, total sales value of exports to the UK, usually the industry's most lucrative market, saw a year-on-year fall of 14 percent. Over the same period, revenue from all other countries in the top five saw modest increases.
