Opinion on Chicago Blackhawks name and logo in the U.S. as of 2020
Founded in 1926, the Chicago Blackhawks is a professional ice hockey team based in Chicago, United States, which plays in the National Hockey League (NHL). The franchise is part of the Western Conference and the Central Division. Written as "Black Hawks" as two separate words since the beginning of the franchise, the name was officially changed to "Blackhawks" in the summer of 1986. During a July 2020 survey in the United States, 11 percent of respondents found the team name and imagery very offensive as it is seen to perpetuate negative stereotypes of Native American people.
