CO₂ emissions from transportation in the EU 1990-2021
The European Union's transportation sector released 842 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO₂) in 2021, rebounding 10 percent from the previous year. In 2020, EU transportation emissions plummeted roughly 20 percent year-on-year due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the subsequent restrictions on mobility and travel. Although emissions increased in 2021, they were still well below pre-pandemic levels.
