Income streams in the French recorded music industry have declined over the past thirteen years. In 2002, income in the recorded music industry amounted to 1.3 billion euros, an amount that dropped to 583 million euros in 2017.
The gross digital revenue of music streaming services in France, however, increased approximately 18 times from 2008 to 2014. In 2014, revenue of music streaming services in France reached 73 million euros, up from 4 million euros in 2008. Revenue is distributed among producers, platforms, taxation, authors/composers/editors, and performers.
Worldwide, Spotify enjoyed the highest subscriber numbers of any streaming provider, with 43 million subscribers.
