U.S. Gun Deaths Outnumber Total War Dead

In recent weeks, the U.S. was rocked by two more devastating mass shootings. On October 1st, a heavily armed gunman killed 58 people attending a country music festival in Las Vegas while on Sunday, 26 people were gunned down at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. According to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported by NBC News, more Americans have died from gunshots in the past 50 years than in all wars in U.S. history combined. Since 1968, 1.5 million Americans have died in firearm-related incidents. In U.S. wars since 1775, 1.2 million service members have been killed.
