The evolution of digital device ownership in the UK

According to telecoms regulator Ofcom, the number of voice calls made on mobile phones in the UK declined for the first time ever last year. That's despite people being glued to their smartphones and nearly 8 out of every 10 adults owning one. Ofcom data published by the BBC provides an interesting look at how digital device ownership has evolved in the UK over the past ten years.

Back in 2008 when smartphones were in their infancy, only 17 percent of people owned one. That has now increased to 78 percent. Many devices are on the road to obsolescence with ownership rates for DVD players, desktop PCs and MP3 players all falling considerably.
