Arms Sales

The West Dominates the Global Arms Market

Overall, arms sales increased in 2017, with total global sales nearing 400 billion dollars, marking a 2.5 percent increase from last year and the third year of continued growth for the industry.

U.S. arms companies still produce the most weapons worldwide. About 57 percent of weapons produced last year came from the United States, according to the Stockholm Peace Research Institute SIPRI. Russia comes in second, with year-over-year growth in arms production. In 2017, Russia provided the world with 10 percent of arms sales. Only major arms companies were included in this study. China was excluded due to insufficient data.
