Few Japanese Use Supplements to Fight Post-Holiday Weight

In Japan, New Year's celebrations are among the country’s most important holidays. As is true in many parts of the world, special celebrations in Japan are often accompanied by plenty of culinary indulgence. Yet, Japanese are known for their healthy diet, longevity and slender figures. So how do they keep their shape after all those holiday treats?

According to the results of a survey conducted in December 2018 by the Japanese beauty and lifestyle online portal Be-Corde.com (link in Japanese), women in Japan seem to fight their post-holidays pounds with a mix of moderate sportive activities and restricted calorie intake. Only some (11.4 percent) use diet supplements.

As the traditional Japanese diet is already considered to be very balanced, there is a desire among consumer for natural and healthy food items. However, dietary supplements are also advertised as quick fix wonder potions for hard-working people considering the country's fast pace and busy lifestyles.

Surprisingly, the same survey revealed that only about 40 percent of women in Japan stick with their diet plans. After all, dieting fads do not seem to be the Japanese secret to youth and slim bodies. But they surely are a clever way of marketing a variety of auspicious pills and powders to a very body and health conscious clientele.
