Where austerity cuts have hit the hardest in Great Britain

A report released today by Centre for Cities has revealed the cities in Great Britain hit the hardest by austerity cuts to local authority services. As our chart shows, Barnsley has seen the harshest of the decreases, and by a country mile. Compared to 2009/2010, cuts have resulted in a 40.4 percent fall in spending as of 2017/2018. The second most-affected city has been Liverpool, with a 31.8 percent decrease. Not many cities were fortunate enough to experience an increase, with Luton and Oxford the notable exceptions with increases of 20.9 and 14.7 percent, respectively.
