Income Is A Barrier To Laptop Ownership For U.S. Teens

While smartphone ownership is ubiquitous across income levels for teens in the U.S., laptop ownership does not have the same salience.

According to the Pew Research Center, for U.S. teens with a family income less than $30k per year, about 1 in 4 teens in those households do not own a laptop. Laptop ownership among teens increases as family income increases, with only about 1 in ten teens not owning laptops in higher income brackets. Another factor that varied by income for U.S. teens was Facebook use, which was higher among lower income teens and steadily decreased as teens household income increased.
