Marginal Tax Rate

Do Americans Support A 70% Marginal Tax Rate?

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's proposal to impose a 70 percent marginal tax rate on wealthy individuals making over $10 million has provoked controversy and significant debate. Even though the super rich unsurprisingly dismissed her idea at Davos, it is gaining traction among registered voters in the United States.

Navigator Research polled 1,116 registered voters on the matter in late January, finding that 48 percent supported it, 28 percent opposed it and 24 percent were not sure about it. Nearly 70 percent of Democratic voters were also behind it and signficantly, so were a third of Republican voters.
