What Are the Candidates Tweeting About?

Democratic primary candidates tweeted 6,650 times about the economy during the first part of 2019. With President Trump campaigning on claims of economic prowess and internal debates within the party over the merits of socialism and capitalism, the economy is a huge talking point for practically every candidate.

Many candidates, particularly Governor Inslee of Washington, have used energy and the environment has breakout issues to distinguish themselves. Healthcare, another major issue for the blue party and winning point in the 2018 midterms, got many mentions in the first part of 2019.

There are now 24 candidates running for the Democratic primary. Twenty hit the debate stage earlier this week, and another configuration of twenty will debate between July 30th to the 31st. As the field winnows, how the conversation around and between each candidate will set the stage for who wins the primary, and ultimately, who wins the next election.
