Democratic Primary

Sanders Leading Most Polls in N.H.

The second Democratic presidential primary vote occurs in New Hampshire on February 11, and early polling shows a clear lead for Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders as he comes off a popular vote win in the Iowa caucus.

With delegates still being accounted for days after the Iowa caucus, early results show Sanders captured the popular vote in the Hawkeye State ahead of Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg. However, early delegate counts show Buttigieg with a slight lead as caucus managers continue to count votes and fix statistical counting errors. On February 10, both campaigns called for a partial recanvassing of certain areas in Iowa to recount delegates and votes.

Buttigieg, whether finishing first or second in the Iowa caucus, undoubtedly came out victorious in his first presidential primary vote and hopes to continue his campaign’s momentum into New Hampshire. Polls show the mayor closing the gap on Sanders, with most polls showing Buttigieg easily surpassing a fading Biden. The most favorable poll for Buttigieg shows him trailing Sanders by just four points.

National polling frontrunner Biden did less-than-stellar in the Iowa caucus, with early results showing a fourth place finish and a small 16 percent of total state delegates. Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren faired decently with a third place finish and 18 percent of total state delegates in the early results, while Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar scooped up most of the remaining state delegates with 12 percent.
