Climate change

Most Popular Climate Policies

Climate change awareness is growing at a rapid pace around the world as uncertainty and fear surrounding consequences of inaction mount. Renewable energy infrastructure is poised to overtake traditional fuel sources like coal and oil in the coming decades in many countries, while top corporations and companies continue to push forward climate-friendly business models for a sustainable future. New survey data shows how a majority of people on the planet support extensive climate-friendly policies.

Results from the world’s largest opinion survey on climate change – the People’s Climate Vote sponsored by the United Nations – showed 54 percent of all people surveyed said they support the growth in conservation of forests and other natural land to combat climate change. The next most popular climate policies are related to the continued use and implementation of renewable power like wind, solar and hydro, along with policy focused on more climate-friendly farming techniques. Investments in green businesses and jobs had 50 percent support, while the proliferation of electric vehicles was close behind with 48 percent. Other popular policies included cleaner waterways and oceans, the installation of more early warning systems for natural disasters and the reduction of food waste.

The survey was distributed across mobile gaming platforms around the world, reaching both adults and those under the age of 18 to gauge their opinion on the growing climate dilemma. While researchers continue to sift through the massive amount of survey data collected, one positive correlation that’s surfaced is a person’s level of education and their willingness for climate action.
