Pre-corona international tourism growth in Europe outpaced domestic increases

The corona pandemic effectively halted domestic and international travel within the space of a few months, and it will be some time before we can observe the long-term trends of the tourism industry's recovery. Looking back to the pre-pandemic era, international tourist arrivals in Europe were growing at an even greater speed than domestic arrivals. The contrast was most evident in 2017 when international arrivals in Europe grew by 7.2 percent whilst domestic arrivals stagnated. European capitals such as Paris and London represent some of the world’s top travel destinations and have contributed to Europe’s popularity among global tourists. Europe is also home to some of the most welcoming cities on earth, such as Matera in Italy and Bled in Slovenia. These destinations attract international travelers not only with diverse cultural and historical experiences but also generous hospitality.
