Few Americans, Including Trump Voters, Want Involvement in Iran

Israel continued attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities and other targets last night as the rhetoric between the two countries as well as the United States is growing more heated. U.S. President Donald Trump called for an evacuation of Iranian capital Tehran and demanded "unconditional surrender" from the country Tuesday. Israel has maintained that it is defending itself from the imminent development of Iranian nuclear weapons, while U.S. intelligence says they know of no such indication. Iran returned fire and its leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said that any U.S. military involvement would "cause irreparable harm".

The air strikes that have been going on since Thursday have reportedly claimed more than 200 lives in Iran and dozens in Israel, as Iranian missiles managed to evade Israeli air defenses. Several high-ranking Iranian military members were also killed, as were nuclear scientists. Thousands have fled the Iranian capital, according to media reports.

As reports say Trump is mulling whether to get involved, a survey by The Economist and YouGov shows that the American public does not approve. Only 16 percent of respondents were in favor, similar to 19 percent of 2024 Trump voters. Republicans in general showed still-low support of 23 percent. A significant part of respondents also said they did not know what to think of the situation.
