Half of Americans Are Trying to Cut Back on Spending

Results from a recent Statista Consumer Insights survey show that almost half of Americans have been trying to cut back on spending, and that many of them had seen some kind of financial worry in the past 12 months. Of the more than 60,000 adults surveyed between October 2024 and September 2025, 49 percent said they had been trying to spend less money in the last 12 months, while 43 percent added that their cost of living had increased notably in the same period. Just over a third of respondents (34 percent) worried they may not be able to pay their bills, and 32 percent saw a negative turn in their financial situation. Finally, more than one in five American adults (22 percent) said they'd had to dip into their savings to cover their expenses in the past year.
