FIFA World Cup 2026
Americans Not Likely to Follow FIFA World Cup at Home
A recent survey carried out by Statista Consumer Insights shows that Americans are only slightly more likely than some Europeans to plan and attend the upcoming FIFA World Cup this year despite it talking place in their own country.
The men's soccer world championship will take place in June and July in 11 U.S., three Mexican and two Canadian cities. Despite many Americans likely living near a game site, only 7 percent say they would attend (among participants who know the World Cup), compared to 5 percent of Brits and 4 percent of Germans. This is despite the fact that the latter two nationalities would have to travel thousands of miles by plane to reach the competition.
In the U.S., 8 percent of familiar respondents say they plan to attend and watch World Cup Games this year, compared to 7 percent in the far-flung United Kingdom.
Taking into account easier access via TV screens, Europeans are still more likely to watch World Cup games, with 59 percent of respondents from the United Kingdom and 51 percent from Germany saying so. In the U.S., only 34 percent said they were planning to tune in, potentially already high for a nation known for its lackluster soccer enthusism.
