How European Hotels Sustain Demand Beyond the Peak Season

Findings from the 2026 European Accommodation Barometer reveal how European hoteliers tackle seasonality challenges. When asked about boosting low-season bookings, discounting stands out as the primary lever, with 87% of respondents employing off-season offers as a means to increase bookings, with a strong majority reporting positive results.

Alongside pricing tactics, operators have other options in their toolkit, such as collaborating with digital platforms (84%), adjusting booking policies (76%), or hosting events to target new demand (56%). These approaches showcase the diverse methods that accommodations employ to secure steady occupancy despite seasonal fluctuations.

While the effectiveness of individual measures varies and local market conditions play a significant role, accommodations typically combine these strategies in response to seasonal fluctuations. For instance, expanding or adapting weather-independent facilities rises significantly in markets such as Spain (75%) and Portugal (77%), reflecting their reliance on favorable weather conditions.
