The gross margin measures the profitability of an industry. This indicator is calculated as the proportion of gross profit (given by total sales less cost of goods sold) to total sales. In the third quarter of 2022, the gross margin of the global hotel and tourism industry reached almost 70 percent. This shows growth over the previous quarter's figure of 65.4 percent. Since the first quarter of 2021, however, the gross margin of the hotel and tourism industry worldwide decreased by approximately 20 percentage points.
