Apple Keynote

Apple's iPhone Cash Cow

As Apple revealed their latest version of the iPhone yesterday, rather than the classic 'one more thing', the main take-away was actually 'one less thing'. With the removal of the classic headphone port on the latest version of their flagship product, Apple are taking a characteristically risky jump into what they hope is the future.

The infographic below takes a look at the costs involved in producing the last eight iPhones and the extent to which the markup is laid on top. With the exception of the SE, Apple were cashing in on a price tag over 200 percent higher than their material and manufacturing costs. It should of course be noted that the traditionally large-scale marketing campaigns accompanying the iPhones are not factored in here. Nevertheless, Apple will be hoping their headphone gamble will pay off so they can continue milking this particular cash cow.
