Trump's Election Led To A Surge In Hate Crime

The United States experienced a surge in hate crime in the 10 days after Donald Trump was elected president, according to a report from the Southern Poverty Law Center. The prominent U.S. civil rights group released a report earlier this week, identifying 867 incidents of harassment and intimidation between November 9 and November 18.

They reached their peak on the day after the election when 202 incidents were recorded. Many of them involved harassers invoking Trump's name, making it clear that his success in the election was primarily responsible for the outbreak of hate. The majority of incidents were fuelled by anti-immigrant sentiment.
