President Trump

Trump Tops Other Presidents In Weekend Getaways

It's common for new U.S. presidents to spend weekends away from the White House, whether they go to their private residence or the retreat at Camp David. A New York Times analysis has found that Donald Trump spent more time away in his first 12 weeks than any of his three predecessors. In an interview with The Hill in 2015, Trump said he would avoid taking time off if he became president. He said "I would rarely leave the White House because there’s so much work to be done. I would not be a president who took vacations. I would not be a president that takes time off".

The analysis found that Trump spent 21 of his first 81 days at his private residence in Florida. At that stage in his presidency, Barack Obama had spent 4 days away from Washington. George W. Bush enjoyed spending time and hosting dignitaries at his ranch in Crawford Texas and by day 81 of his presidency, he had spent 12 days there. The New York Times has also claimed that Trump has spent substantially more time on the golf course than Obama, Bush and Clinton. So far he has played golf on 17 days while Clinton played on 3 days at the same point in office. Both Obama and Bush left their golf clubs untouched during their first 12 weeks on the job.
