Outside of the United States, President Donald Trump’s handling of key international issues is largely viewed negatively. That's according to the Pew Research Center's latest Global Attitudes Survey, which was conducted in 36 countries in the first half of 2026. As our chart shows, median disapproval clearly outweighs median approval on all international issues included in the survey. Disapproval is particularly high when it comes to major geopolitical conflicts, including the Russia-Ukraine war, the Iran conflict and the situation in Gaza. Trump's tariff policies are also extremely unpopular with a media disapproval rate of 77 percent. Even on issues where Trump receives comparatively higher ratings, such as international humanitarian aid, a median of 56 percent still disapprove of his handling.
While approval levels are low across most regions and policy areas, there are some notable exceptions. Trump’s handling of humanitarian aid tends to receive relatively more support in several middle-income countries, while views on specific conflicts vary depending on geographic proximity and political context. Overall, however, the data underscores a broad lack of confidence in the current administration’s foreign policy, reinforcing the wider decline in the United States’ global standing.
