In 2021, around 71.4 percent of Chinese consumers who stayed at home to celebrate the Spring Festival chose to do their holiday shopping in hypermarkets. In comparison, about 43 percent of shoppers used online shopping platforms to order goods for celebrating the holiday. Due to an outbreak of COVID-19 before the spring festival, the government urged people to stay home instead of returning to their hometowns.
