China: smog situation stimulates air purification market
In China’s capital city, the frequent smog has seriously affected people's living environment and physical health. Following Delhi, Mumbai and Dakar, Beijing is currently ranked fourth on the list of cities with the world’s worst air quality, according to the World Health Organization.
In response to this issue, and with the rise of e-commerce, the air purifier market in China has gradually developed, both online and off, building up unprecedented momentum. As the figures in our infographic show, 1.12 million units were sold in 2011 and this is expected to have reached almost 10 million last year. Some even predict that the air purifier will become the fifth most common home appliance after color televisions, air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines. At present, the air purifier market in China is still dominated by international brands which have a much higher market share than that of domestic brands.
