Hotstar: The star of the Indian video streaming market

Despite the American giants Amazon and Netflix entering the country, Hotstar still easily holds top spot in the Indian video-on-demand and video streaming market. According to VentureBeat, with over 63 percent of app installs as of March 2018, Hotstar, a subsidiary of Star India, is expanding by partnering with national telecom service provider BSNL. Additionally, the company has acquired rights to popular movies and shows from HBO, Showtime, Disney and Fox in recent months.

As Netflix, Amazon and now YouTube struggle to find ways to increase their reach in the market by looking for local content, Hotstar retains its leading position by hitting the right balance with viewers. With discounted prices for subscriptions and rights to the Indian Premier League, one among many in its catalogue of sporting events, there is no stopping this video streaming service.
