Entertainment Is the Main Motivator for VPN Use

People by and large use VPNs to access better entertainment content across both their PC/laptop and mobile devices. Over half of the respondents, Global Web Index surveyed worldwide during Q1 2018 had used a VPN for entertainment purposes.

The reasons for using VPNs largely remained the same between mobile users and PC/laptop users. Outside of entertainment, the second most common reason for employing a VPN on a mobile device was to access social networks or news services. For PC or laptop VPN users, the second most cited reason for employing a virtual private network was to maintain anonymity while browsing the web.
