Mueller Report

Who Should See the Entire Mueller Report?

Attorney General William Barr released a redacted version of Special Counsel Mueller’s report to Congress this afternoon. Special Counsel Mueller has been investigating whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, obstructed justice, and whether Russia interfered in the 2016 election.

Mueller initially released a topline of his 400-page report where he punted the final decision on the obstruction of justice question to the Attorney General and definitively found that Russia interfered in the 2016 election. After passing his report onto Barr, the Attorney General said he would pass along a color-coded redacted report to Congress and the public. Mueller’s report has instigated 14 other federal inquiries.

According to a YouGov poll, about half of Americans think that Congress should have the entire report without any redactions, while only 35 percent of people think that the public should have that level of unfettered access. Those values were flipped when it came to who should see a redacted version, with about half of respondents saying that the public should be able to see the censored version and only about a third of respondents saying that Congress should have access to that lower level of access. About 16 percent of Americans surveyed think that Congress and the public shouldn’t be able to read the Mueller report at all.
