Ethnicity Pay Gap

Where Britain's regional ethnicity pay gap is widest

The UK's Office for National Statistics has released its first ever analysis of ethnicity pay gaps in Great Britain. It found that employees of Chinese, Indian and mixed or multiple ethnicity all had higher median hourly pay than White British employees in 2018 while employees in the Pakistani and Bangladeshi ethnic groups had the lowest median hourly pay.

On a regional basis, the percentage difference in median hourly pay between people of white ethnicity and those belonging to an ethnic minority group is largest in London at 21.7 percent. The pay gap is also pronounced in the North West and Yorkshire & Humberside where ethnic minorities earn 16.9 percent and 15.3 percent less than White British employees respectively on average.
