TSA Security: The Longest Waits At U.S. Airports

It can prove frustrating when a bewildered traveler shows up at airport security with no idea how the process works, resulting in arguments about liquid allowances and scanners beeping due to forgotten metallic items. That of course causes delays for everybody else and the line at security screening can prove nightmarish for business and leisure travelers alike.

A new study has now ranked the very worst waits at TSA security at America's 25 biggest airports. Conducted by Upgraded Points, the research analyzed horly and daily TSA data to determine average and peak waiting times. It found that New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport has the longest average wait in the country at 23.1 minutes while travelers have to wait in line for one hour during its busiest period.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, comes second for waiting at security screening where people stand in line for 19.8 minutes on average. Its peak wait occurs on Sunday from 5 to 6pm when delays can be as long as 51 minutes. The third-worst U.S. airport in Miami International which has 19.8 minutes on average. Its longest peak waiting time is 37 minutes. Out of the 25 airports in the analysis, Salt Lake City had the shorted average wait at just 9.1 minutes while the peak is just 26 minutes.
