Brexit

Election timing will be crucial for Johnson/Corbyn

As a new survey by ComRes for Britain Elects shows, the timing of a new election, should there end up being one, will be crucial for Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn and sheds some light on the motivation behind calling/not backing a new poll for the government and the opposition.

Should the country to be asked to vote before the end of October with Brexit still not delivered, the poll predicts a narrow win (in percentage terms, if not seats) for the Conservatives. If things don't go the way of the prime minister and the Brexit deadline is extended once more, voters would turn away from the Tories - seemingly towards the Brexit Party - delivering a two-point advantage to Jeremy Corbyn and Labour. These fine margins highlight the political tightrope both sides are trying to manoeuvre across in this most crucial period of the Brexit process.
