Deadly Love of Ramen?

Researchers at the Jichi Medical University near Tokyo have found a staggering link between Ramen consumption and the risk of dying of a stroke. Tochigi prefecture, where the university is located, was found towards the very top of places affected by this curious but deadly connection.

The scientists, who might have witnessed their patients overindulge in the traditional noodle soup, compared the rates at which types of restaurants occur in different prefectures with the risk of dying of different diseases. Despite checking multiple combinations, they only found a meaningful correlation between stroke mortality and ramen restaurant prevalence. According to the study, both men and women can suffer this negative consequence of ramen overeating.

No such connection was found between the frequent occurrence of fast food restaurants, French and Italian restaurants or Udon and Soba restaurants and an increased risk of dying of a stroke. Neither was there a correlation between any type of restaurant in the study and an increased risk of dying of a heart attack.

According to the authors, the negative health outcomes of ramen love are most likely in connection with the food’s high carbohydrates and salt contents.
