Environmental Risks' Rise to Global Dominance

This week some 3,000 people are meeting to discuss possible solutions to the world's major challenges in the town of Davos, Switzerland, in the context of the World Economic Forum. This year, the 50th meeting, major environmental issues will be on the agenda more than ever, with the aim of getting businesses more involved in the fight against climate change and the destruction of biodiversity.

It is no coincidence then, that this year's edition of 'The Global Risks Report’, also published by the Forum, identifies environmental risks as the five most likely global threats for the coming ten years for the first time in the survey’s 14-year history. Extreme weather, climate action failure and natural disasters are at the top of the list.
