Unlockdown in Europe

Since mid-April, some Western European countries have begun relaxing the COVID-19 lockdown measures which were launched in March all over Europe. Spain and Italy, which are among the countries that implemented the toughest regulations of social isolation, began this week to phase them out.

Italy experienced a longer period of confinement, started on Monday with the first measures of easing taking effect, leading to 4.5 million Italians returning to work.

France, where the epidemic has killed more than 25,000 people, will wait a little longer to take the first steps towards ending the confinement on May 11, despite having flattened the curve most successfully out of the three countries.

Germany, Austria and Switzerland, in have generally been more moderately affected, began to roll-back measures between mid- and late April.
