Covid-19 Outbreak

Widespread Public Support For Future U.S. Lockdowns

Across Europe, governments have reimposed lockdowns in response to a second wave of Covid-19 infections. France, Germany, Ireland and the UK are among the countries that have shuttered businesses in an attempt to flatten the curve for a second time. Meanwhile, the United States is experiencing record numbers of coronavirus cases, though President Trump has proven reluctant to take similar action, a move President-elect Joe Biden will likely make after he is inaugurated.

So, does the American public support the pain and inconvenience of a lockdown in a bid to save lives? YouGov recently looked into the issue, finding that two-thirds of the U.S. public would support their state imposing a 1-month lockdown, though there is a significant partisan split among respondents. 87 percent of Democrats say they would support such action compared to just 30 percent of Republicans.
