Majority Support Removing Trump Before Biden Takes Office

An ABC News/Ipsos poll conducted in the aftermath of Wednesday's storming of the Capitol has found that a majority of the U.S. public supports removing President Trump from office before Joe Biden is sworn in on January 20. The research found that 56 percent of Americans think the current commander-in-chief should be removed ahead of the official transfer of power, a figure that rises to 94 percent among Democrats before falling to 13 percent among Republicans.

The poll also found that two-thirds of the public say the president deserves a good amount or a great deal of the blame for last week's events. The House is set to try and force Vice President Mike Pence to remove Trump by invoking the 25th amendment before moving forward with impeachment, a process that could begin as early as the middle of the week.
