How AI Is Transforming Media Publishing
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the media publishing industry, with back-end automation and coding emerging as critical areas of innovation in the sector. According to Reuters' 2026 trends and predictions report, which surveyed almost 300 media leaders around the globe between November and December 2025, they are the two most important AI use cases in media publishing in the upcoming year. Back-end automation (tagging, copyediting, transcription, etc.) is considered "very important" by 64 percent of media executives surveyed by Reuters, while 44 percent said the same about coding/product development. Coding, in particular, has recently seen a surge in adoption. The previous year, only 28 percent of industry professionals viewed it as a "very important" use case, which represents an annual jump of 16 percentage points. In comparison, other popular applications, like newsgathering and content creation with human oversight, are considered really important by nearly 30 percent of respondents, with little change over the year.
Looking ahead, Reuters highlights that publishers are increasingly relying on AI for tasks like automated summarization, translation and code generation for new digital products. As newsrooms prioritize original reporting and video content, AI's role in websites' back-end development is becoming indispensable, helping media companies stay competitive in an era where speed, personalization and innovation are paramount.
