Gaming Subscriptions

PlayStation Plus Leads U.S. Gaming Subscriptions

Three quarters of Americans between the ages of 18 and 64 play video games, data from Statista Consumer Insights shows. While popular smartphone gaming is most often free, new premium games for PCs or consoles typically cost between $50 and $80. A gaming subscription offers many players an alternative to these individual purchases.

Statista Consumer Insights KPIs highlight which providers are leading the pack in the United States. PlayStation Plus is the market leader, used by 18 percent of 1,249 U.S. respondents who were surveyed this February. Netflix Games secures second place at 15 percent – although it is worth noting that this is not a premium video game subscription, but only includes access to free, full versions of mobile games. Almost as many Americans use Google PlayPass (14 percent) and Apple Arcade (12 percent), which offer a mix of mobile games, popular non-gaming apps and some play available on PC, Mac or Apple TV, respectively. Two subscriptions centered on more premium games, Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online, also reach 12 percent of Americans each.
