Publishers Diversify Their Mobile Efforts

The dominance of Apple’s mobile platform in terms of app selection and available content may be shrinking.

A survey among 210 North American publishers yielded the result that more and more publishers are opening up to platforms beside Apple’s iOS.

For now, the iPad remains the most popular platform with 87 percent of the publishers surveyed offering apps for Apple’s tablet. However, it seems like publishers can no longer afford to focus on one platform, as the overwhelming majority delivers content to several platforms.

Description

This chart shows the percentage of North American publishers that develop apps for selected mobile platforms. Apple's iOS is the most popular platform among publishers, but other platforms such as Amazon's Kindle are catching up.
