Who's Expected to Pay the Most to UNESCO?

With the U.S. finally signaling their withdrawal from UNESCO yesterday, our chart looks at the countries which are expected to contribute the most to the organization. Of course, in the case of the United States, this is purely theoretical given that their last payment was in June 2011.

With the lion's share of the funding falling at the feet of the U.S., the country has to date amassed arrears with UNESCO of over half a billion dollars. For the latest period, the 22 percent share of total contributions allocated to the United States equates to $143.7 million. With significantly smaller bills, the next largest shares are expected from Japan and China at 9.7 and 7.9 percent, respectively.

Description

This chart shows the countries with the highest assessed contribution rates to UNESCO as of October 5, 2017.
